Chichester Cathedral gets a cash boost
Chichester Cathedral gets a cash boost, The Cathedral has been awarded £100,000 from the First World War Centenary Cathedral repairs fund. The money will be used to make urgent repairs to the roof space that covers St Pantaleon Chapel.
The £20m fund was set up earlier this year to help with urgent repairs, in the first round of funding; Chichester Cathedral was awarded £140,000 for urgent repairs to its North West Tower.
Craig Sergeant, trust director, said: “This is wonderful news and we are immensely grateful to both the Department for Culture, Media and Sport and Church Care. The repairs to this part of the roof will cost a total of £195,000, so this much-needed award, together with matched funding being provided by the trust, will enable this urgent work to be completed within the next 12 months.”
Chichester Cathedral still maintains a free entry policy to the cathedral, enabled in part, by the Restoration Trust’s fundraising efforts.
